Baptism (also referred to as ‘Christening’) marks the beginning of a journey with God which continues for the rest of our lives, the first step in response to God’s love. For all involved, particularly the candidates but also parents, godparents and sponsors, it is a joyful moment when we rejoice in what God has done for us in Christ, making serious promises and declaring the faith.
The wider community of the local church and friends welcome the new Christian, promising support and prayer for the future. Hearing and doing these things provides an opportunity to remember our own baptism and reflect on the progress made on that journey, which is now to be shared with this new member of the Church.
We would love to celebrate this fantastic occasion with you. A key part of baptism is welcoming the baptised (child or adult) into the church family.
The first step of seeking a baptism at St Bart’s is to come along to our Family Service, which is on the 1st Sunday of each month at 4pm. At that service you can meet the church and the vicar, and from there we can start looking at dates and meeting up to talk things through.
Perhaps you have some questions before popping along to see us. There are some great resources out there, you can find out more on the Church of England website, which contains information for Parents, Godparents, and much more…
Here is a brief video, explaining more about baptism, you can watch this on YouTube by clicking here…
Baptism is the start of the journey, not the end. To help your child grow in their relationship with Jesus, you can do many things, but here two suggestions we would make…
Firstly, bring them along to All Age Church on the 1st Sunday of each month at 4pm.
Secondly, there is a wonderful website, with loads of activities and ideas, you can find a link to it here…
Baptism is the start of the journey, not the end. To help yourself grow in faith, there are loads of things you can do.
Firstly, we’d suggest going along to a church, you can come to any of our services, have a look at the ‘Services’ page on this site for more details, but perhaps a great place to start would be our informal ‘Café service’ on the 3rd Sunday of every month at 4pm.
Also on this site has a ‘Growing in Faith’ page, with loads of different resources/activities that you could use to grow in your faith. If you need some help, please just get in touch.
